Substance Use Policy

  • Decriminalization of Marijuana - 2012

    Decriminalized the possession of a small amount of marijuana

  • Comprehensive Discharge Planning - 2019

    Connects those with SUDs with supports when discharged from healthcare facilities

  • Harm Reduction - 2021

    Establishes a pilot program for the first harm reduction center in the US

  • Decriminalization of Buprenorphine - 2021

    Decriminalizes the possession of buprenorphine

Civil Rights & Equality

  • Marriage Equality - 2013

    Legalizes same-sex marriage

  • Housing Protection - 2014

    Ensures that tenants aren't evicted during foreclosures

  • Repeal of Americanization of Schools - 2019

    Removes fines for students who don't speak English

  • Gender Inclusive Bathrooms - 2021

    Access to private and safe bathrooms regardless of gender

  • Shield Bill- 2024

    Provides protection for healthcare professionals who provide legal medical services in RI from out-of-State entities who only want to interfere with legal medical procedures in RI.

Environment

  • Bay Street Bill - 2009

    Dramatically increases fines on industrial polluters

  • On site Sewage Systems-2012

    Requires any Zoning regulations that set regulations to on-site sewage systems or wetlands to submit those regulations to RIDEM or RIDOH as applicable.

  • School Construction Safety - 2013

    Strengthens safety standards for the placement of new schools

  • Seapowet Cove Preservation- 2024

    Preserves Seapowet Cove from commercial & residential development and adds it to the Seapowet Marsh Management Area under RIDEM control.

Judicial

  • Sex Offender Registration - 2010

    Requires sex offenders to remain categorized during appeal.

  • Voting Booth- 2017

    Would allow children to accompany their parents into the voting booth up to the age of 18.

  • Rape Kit Reform - 2021

    Requires the prompt testing of rape kits and addresses the rape kit backlog.

Area of focus

Small Business

  • Allow 16 year olds to Pump Fuel- 2010

    Would allow full service gas stations to employ 16 year old employees to dispense motor fuel.

  • Levy of Taxes upon Completion of Construction

    Would allow single family home contractors to not pay local taxes on a house until the sale or the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
